Stories from correspondents around the world. This week Alan Johnston presents despatches covering the United States, Iceland, Venezuela, and the Horn of Africa.
For the last three years Kevin Connolly has reported on the United States as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Washington Correspondent. Now, as he prepares to leave for another Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ posting, he delivers this specially-extended despatch in which he reflects on his personal experience of the country. From the music of Broadway to modern American etiquette, he explores aspects of Stateside life which he finds striking, amusing and humbling. And he talks of a very first impression of the country which has never left him. Also in this programme Martin Redfern travels to Iceland, meeting the volcanologists who are trying to work out which volcano will erupt next … and how serious that eruption will be. And why are Venezuelans so divided by the colour red? It's a question to which Will Grant in Caracas provides the answer. And Martin Plaut meets the people from the Horn of Africa who are trying to bring peace and to build stability in their war-torn region.
