Andrew Graham-Dixon investigates the Osiris Camera at the National Gallery

Andrew Graham-Dixon meets the National Gallery’s Osiris camera, which uses Infrared Reflectography to penetrate to the level of the original underdrawings.

Research Associate Rachel Billinge demonstrates how the camera has revealed that the gallery’s copy of β€œThe Virgin and Child with an Angel” is a forgery.

The original was painted by Italian Renaissance artist Francesco Francia. But, the National Gallery’s copy was probably painted in the second half of the 19th century.
