Andrew Graham-Dixon investigates the Osiris Camera at the National Gallery
Andrew Graham-Dixon meets the National Galleryβs Osiris camera, which uses Infrared Reflectography to penetrate to the level of the original underdrawings.
Research Associate Rachel Billinge demonstrates how the camera has revealed that the galleryβs copy of βThe Virgin and Child with an Angelβ is a forgery.
The original was painted by Italian Renaissance artist Francesco Francia. But, the National Galleryβs copy was probably painted in the second half of the 19th century.
