Filming reed warblers
Bill Oddie gives us his best impressions of a reed warbler and meets up with cameraman Nigel Bean as he sets up a new mini-camera on a reed warbler nest. Finding a tiny, hand-sized nest in all the reeds is no mean feat, but Nigel explains how sitting and watching the small birds flying about led him straight to a nest with chicks. The nest itself is very small and the team had to be careful they didn't disturb it whilst they were looking for it, let alone once the cameras were in place. There are four well grown chicks in the nest, being well looked after by their parents. During the afternoon, two of the chicks fledge, leaving the other two to take the leap another day.
