Hannibal, the Springwatch barn owl which lives at Heligan has returned to the box where he was born the previous year. Surprisingly, he had found himself a mate and the young female has laid four eggs. He can be seen bringing in food to the box, but this footage seems to show that the female has to battle with him to share it. It may be that this is unusual and he has been bringing food for her throughout the day, but it illustrates that they are a young couple who aren't completely sure of what they should be doing. The eggs seem quite vulnerable as they are trodden on and kicked about the nest, but if she is a young bird, she may also be learning how to raise a family.
