Neighbourhood spat
Great crested grebes have always chosen this place to raise their chicks, but today something has got this mother in a spin: a coot - the bully of the riverbanks and one of the grebe's main competitors for a safe nest site. Backyard boundary disputes are an everyday scene. This time words are exchanged, but no feathers fly. Meanwhile father paddles in to feed his chick, but isn't this portion out of proportion? Apparently not. And with a mouth like that to feed, there's no time to hang around. No more interference from the coot next door. With her own brood of hungry chicks in tow, she's much too busy keeping her own house in order.
