Swirling starlings
The West Pier at Brighton is home to tens of thousands of starlings. In the winter, the starlings feed in the surrounding countryside and come back to the abandoned pier to roost. However, the building is due to be redeveloped and so the starlings will have to move on. Making room for wildlife continues to involve compromises. In the last 20 years the starling population has crashed.
