Dangerous Drake

The Story of Slapstick charts the history of the world's most popular comedy genre. Whether you're three or fifty three we all seem to love physical humour. It doesn't matter if they're slapped, banged or walloped, there's a simple glee in the misfortune of others. Slapstick comedy gives us permission to laugh at other people's suffering. However suffering has its limits and live television performer Charlie Drake found out the hard way that slapstick stunts can be dangerous. When being pulled through a bookcase as part of a slapstick stunt sequence, the heavy books knocked Charlie unconscious in front of the studio audience and viewers at home. Not only did it get a laugh, his fellow performers proceeded with the script, picked up the zonked Drake and threw him out the window.
