Snow covered
Otters seem to thrive in the Yellowstone winter, but when the rivers are not only frozen but covered in deep snow they struggle to find open water to fish in. Any water still flowing is too fast and dangerous. They need to find a way past the falls and do this by tobogganing down the snowy slopes, narrowly avoiding crashing through the occasional thin ice below. With the falls safely behind them the otters are forced to keep moving on to search for the open water that has become a rare thing in Yellowstone at this time of year.
