Ocean wanderers
Satellite data from two tagged mantas has finally been interpreted by scientist, Andrea Marshall. It was always believed that mantas stayed in shallow waters, but the data from one of the mantas, known as Cook, shows she spent most of her time between 50 and 150 metres down. The second manta, Magellan, has made a huge journey of over 700 miles, down the coast from Mozambique and into South African waters. The significance of the data is enormous as it's now realised that protecting these newly recognised species will require international co-operation.
