The United States has announced that a shortage of money has left Al Qaeda in its weakest position for years. But how much does this matter?

Al Qaeda's presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan is one of the main reasons given for western military intervention in the region. But just last week the US government said its efforts to restrict Al Qaeda funding had left the organisation in its weakest position for several years. Alex Last asks if Al Qaeda is really running out of money.
