Toxic plants

To prevent their seeds and leaves being eaten by animals, rainforest plants have developed a complex and formidable array of toxins. Many contain high doses of morphine, strychnine and cyanide, enough to deter many hungry animals. However, some animals - such as the white-faced saki - have developed digestive systems that can deal with the plant toxins.
