One Planet:Eden
Mike goes on a stayvacation, wishes he was in the Maldives, and hears about slum tours.
The One Planet team gets ready for the holidays - by going on holiday, to the Eden Project in the South West of England. Some 11million people have visited the disused quarry since it was turned into three nature biospheres in 2001.
Mike chats to founder Tim Smit about his beliefs on sustainability, why we need to love our plants a bit more, and his dislike of open-toed sandals.
We also hear from one holiday hotspot on the front line of climate change - the Maldives. The president of the popular tourist destination asks the world to act now to stop global warming before rising sea levels submerge his nation's islands.
And we hear from the Kibera slums in Kenya, and ask whether tourist tours of shanty tours are educational or voyerism. As ever, tune in or download, have a listen and then let us know what you think. Email the team at oneplanet@bbc.com, or write to us at Mike Williams, One Planet, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service, Bush House, London.
The show is now taking a break for a few weeks as we prepare some groundwork ahead of series two, which builds up to the Copenhagen climate change summit. But keep in touch with the team via email, and you can always read about our exploits via our Facebook page. Happy August to all.
