Fans of Michael Jackson have been grieving for over a week now - often in mass public displays of mourning. Has society become obsessed with dead celebrities?

The death of Michael Jackson received vast worldwide publicity which has barely diminished since. Attention is now focused on the memorial service due to start in Los Angeles in a few hours time - which 1.6 million people applied to attend. Vincent Dowd asks if the public and the media have become overly obsessed with the deaths of celebrities.
