Macavity's Not There - TS Eliot in the 21st Century
Daljit Nagra selects Macavity's Not There which investigates TS Eliot’s relevance today. With Michael Alexander. From 2009.
Poet Daljit Nagra revisits the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's poetry archive and, to mark 60 years since the death of T.S. Eliot, he selects Macavity's Not There - a programme about the poet presented by Michael Alexander. And Daljit reads from his Poetry Extra Book of the Month for January: Oi You Lot - a debut collection by Kareem Parkins-Brown.
At one time T.S. Eliot was one of Britain's most important cultural figures: but Britain has changed out of all recognition since then. How does a new edition of Eliot's writings affect his reputation: and how much significance do his poems really have in 21st century Britain? Critic Michael Alexander explores Eliot's legacy, with the help of Eliot scholar Sir Christopher Ricks, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams.
Produced by Paul Bajoria
First broadcast on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4 in 2009.
