Lopa Kothari shares a fiery live performance from Latin Grammy-winning Colombian cumbia group Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto. Recorded in front of a passionate crowd at The Fox and Firkin in South London at the start of November, the band brought the house down with a rip-roaring, maraca-driven set. Vocalist Rafael RodrΓguez is on hand to tell us about the rich tradition of cumbia and its meaning for the community in San Jacinto, BolΓvar.
Elsewhere in the show, Lopa presents tracks from some of her favourite releases from this year, including a recording of mind-blowing, psychedelic Manding music, as well as traditional Bengali folk, music that - for her - brings reminiscences of childhood and the songs of independence and courtship beloved of her parents.
