Hannah French hosts a Christmas party for Saturday Morning

Hannah has live music and guests Connaught Brass, conductor John Butt, London Vegetable Orchestra & the best classical playlist to start your festive weekend.

Hannah throws a Christmas party! There's live music from Connaught Brass, conductor John Butt on the festive season's Baroque big hitters and a legume masterclass from the London Vegetable Orchestra. Plus of course the very finest classical Christmas playlist to start your festive weekend!

Conductor and keyboardist John Butt is Musical Director of the Dunedin Consort and one of the world's finest conductors of Baroque music. This time of year though, he's also Mr Christmas! He's conducted hundreds of performances of Handel's Messiah and Bach's Christmas music and is in town to give a concert of Italian festive music. He talks about why audiences are addicted to the comfort of music at this time of year, why D major is the sound of Christmas and why for him the smell is the key...

The exciting young brass ensemble Connaught Brass are in the studio to play live and chat about the particular magic of brass instruments at Christmas, and as millions of Christmas letters are winging their way into Lapland, we discover what music making in Lapland actually sounds like from those who live there with conductor John Storgards and Sami musician ÁnnÑmÑret.

And given the humble vegetable forms an integral part of many people's Christmas dinner, Hannah enlists the London Vegetable Orchestra to provide a more musical solution to a surfeit of carrots, squash and more...
