Episode 3

At seven months, the pups have a strong bond with their handlers. But they face big tests as they learn to herd livestock and respond to calls.

It’s been two months since we last met our trainers, and our pups are now seven months old. With summer heat radiating through our screens, the harvests are flourishing. Seasonal shifts have impacted crop and grazing cycles and, with a regional work force shortage impacting their industry, some of our graziers are finding the pressure to train their pups overwhelming.

Since we last saw the puppies they have grown and are developing their stalking livestock techniques and learning manners and basic calls. Steve and Indi in Winton, Queensland are going great guns, but cracks are starting to appear in the Northern Territory’s Top End for Zoe and Buddy, who are feeling the pinch of the labour shortage. And with no trainer mob to work Buddy on the seven-month assessment, it’s shaping up to be an epic fail.

Tha dà mhìos bho chunnaic sinn na trèanairean, is tha na cuileanan a-nise seachd mìosan a dh'aois.
Fhad 's a tha teas an t-samhraidh a' deàrrsadh tro na sgrionaichean againn, tha am bàrr a' fàs. Thug atharraichidhean sa ghnàth-shìde buaidh air cuairtean fàis is ionaltraidh, agus le gainnead luchd-obrach sa ghnìomhachas, tha uallach a bhith ag ionnsachadh nan cuilean cus do chuid dhe na cìobairean. Bho chunnaic sinn roimhe iad, dh'fhàs na cuileanan is tha iad a' gleusadh an dòighean seilge agus ag ionnsachadh modh agus òrdain bunaiteach.

Tha Steve is Indi ann an Winton ann an Queensland a' dol mar am peilear, ach ann an ceann-shuas an Ranntair Thuath tha cùisean teann dha Zoe is Buddy a tha a' fulang ri linn a' ghainnead luchd-obrach. Agus às aonais treud trèanaidh dha Buddy airson measadh nan seachd mìos, chan eil a' chùis a' coimhead dòchasach idir.
