Northern Irish songwriter Ciaran Lavery has just released his outstanding new album 鈥淟ight Entertainment鈥�. He joins Stephen for a live studio session and a chat.

The great strength of Ciaran鈥檚 art is that, at the heart of it, lies a contradiction. On the one hand, he is an effortlessly melodic and distinctive songwriter but, on the other, there is a restlessly experimental instinct. On 鈥淟ight Entertainment鈥�, it is built into the layers of the songs providing context for socio-political comment but that experimental narrative is also built into how this album is presented. He has produced a short film that accompanies this record and, when it has been performed live, he has incorporated aspects of musical theatre, both of which explore everything from the music industry and the news cycle to our relationship with technology and morality.
