Detling 24
Two teams race around a busy antiques fair in Kent, guided by their experts, Catherine Southon and Mark Stacey.
Today’s show comes from a bustling antiques fair in Detling in Kent, where two teams browse jam-packed stalls with the aim of buying three items in an hour to take to auction.
The red team, friends Bill and Al, known as Del Boy and Rodney to their friends, are led around by expert Catherine Southon, while the blues, performing arts teachers Jo and Simisola, are treated to the dry wit of expert Mark Stacey. Both teams browse a variety of items, but whereas the blues finish with enough time to grab a cuppa, the reds take it right to the wire. With the seconds counting down, Bill, Al and Catherine desperately try to find their third item. Will they do a deal in time?
Presenter Eric Knowles visits the Kent Museum of the Moving Image to learn about peep boxes and magic lanterns, two early forms of visual entertainment that delighted audiences as far back as the 17th century. Over in Portsmouth, auctioneer Daniel Tricker is doing the business on the rostrum.
