Melodious trance states with Maalem Houssam Guinia
Kathryn Tickell shares new Gnawa music from Maalem Houssam Guinia and circular songs from Donsoya artist Nfaly DiakitΓ©.
Kathryn Tickell presents trance-inducing circular music from the new album of Moroccan Gnawa master Maalem Houssam Guinia, the son of the illustrious Maalem Mahmoud Guinia. In a similar spirit, we hear the music of Donsoya artist Nfaly DiakitΓ©, who sings accompanied by donso ngoni, his eight-stringed antelope skin harp. Elsewhere in the show, guitarist Justin Adams and frame drum player Mauro Durante blend Italian pizzica with blues on their latest album, Sweet Release.
