Tom Service talks to violinist Nemanja Radulovic and, as Germany marks 35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, he discusses the talks to conductor Christian Thielemann.

Tom Service talks to violinist Nemanja Radulovic and plays the best classical music from classic to new recordings. Plus, as Germany marks 35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tom looks at the state of music there, talking to the conductor Christian Thielemann.

10.10am
The star violinist Nemanja Radulovic talks to Tom about his love of the Khachaturian Violin Concerto and what he takes from the Russian schools of violin playing and his formative years at the Paris Conservatoire, after uprooting with his family from his homeland in Serbia. He imaginatively fuses the masterpieces of the violin repertoire from Bach to Tchaikovsky with his fascination for folk music, everywhere from the Balkans to Scotland.

11.35am
On this day exactly 35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tom talks to the conductor Christian Thielemann, who grew up in what was West Berlin. He talks about what life was like then, and his memories of a divided Germany. Thielemann has a unique perspective having been Music Director of both the Deutsche Oper in former West Berlin and now the Staatsoper in what was East Berlin. With the Reichstag in the news this week, and the threat of 10% cuts to arts funding in Berlin, Tom also talks to Christian Thielemann about life in unified Berlin now and his hopes for the future.
