Talking Movies reports from the New York Film Festival - one of the most prestigious film events in North America.

Among the highlights covered by the team are celebrated Spanish film-maker Pedro Almodovar's first English-language full-length feature The Room Next Door and Mike Leigh's Hard Truths, starring Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who previously worked with Leigh in his 1996 picture Secrets & Lies. The festival opened with Nickel Boys, a portrayal of the relationship between two young men at an abusive racist reform school in 1960s Florida, inspired by a Pulitzer Prize-winning book from American novelist Colson Whitehead.

Talking Movies also finds out how young audiences have become the lifeblood of both the New York and London film festivals - it's also been discovered that young people are drawn to the year-round activities of these festivals, gravitating especially to repertory cinema and certain old classics.
