Rebecca tells Luffy about the one-legged toy soldier that raised her when she lost her mother. Before she steps out into the arena, she reminisces about her childhood. Her mother was killed by Doflamingo鈥檚 men when he took over the throne ten years ago. Although he couldn鈥檛 protect her mother, Thunder Soldier promised Rebecca to protect her forever and stay by her side until she finds happiness. He became a fugitive when he attacked a couple of thugs that tried to kidnap Rebecca. He also taught Rebecca to fight to prevent herself from getting hurt. In the colosseum, Luffy learns that Rebecca is hated by the public for her grandfather, the former king of Dressrosa who is accused of setting fire to the kingdom and robbing the people of their riches.
