Following Whitebeard鈥檚 order, the pirates honor his wish and unwillingly begin to retreat. Before Ace starts to leave, he gets on his knees and silently thanks Whitebeard. Whitebeard asks him to tell him one last thing, if he was a good father to him. As Luffy and Ace run toward the ship, Akainu stands in their way. He starts badmouthing Whitebeard and provokes Ace into a fight. Akainu鈥檚 magma overpowers Ace鈥檚 fire, and when Akainu unleashes an attack on Luffy, Ace puts himself in the way to shield him and gets his chest penetrated by Akainu鈥檚 magma fist.
