Edward Gardner conducts two Rachmaninov masterworks including his Third Piano Concerto with soloist Leif Ove Andsnes, plus his choral symphony The Bells. For Rachmaninov the sound of bells embodied the eternal soul of Russia, and his choral symphony - which was his own favourite of all his works - is an odyssey through the whole of human life, its joy and sorrow. It follows his most epic piano concerto, for which the London Philharmonic Orchestra are joined by Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes.
