6 Music’s 'Way With Words' is a special week of programming led by Craig Charles to mark National Poetry Day (Oct 3rd).
Leading up to the day, Craig will be celebrating all things spoken-word / poetry, with special guests and features throughout the week.
To kick things off, on Monday 30th September, OneDa will be performing live in session, as well performing a specially written spoken word piece of her own.
On Tuesday 1st October, Richard Hawley will be chatting to Craig about the poets that have inspired him over the years.
On Wednesday 2nd, Mercury Prize winner Lily Fontaine of English Teacher will be joining Craig to talk about her favourite lyricists and inspirations (as well as reflecting on her Mercury win), and to end the week, James Smith of Yard Act will be stopping by to share the stories behind some of his favourite lyrics.
Also, throughout the week, we’ll be hearing from some of the best up-and-coming spoken word artists in the country and inducting them into our ‘Class of 2024’.
Then, on National Poetry Day itself, artists, musicians and wordsmiths will take over the network to celebrate all things spoken word.
Craig will be performing a poem he’s written to mark the occasion as well as discussing what inspired him to write it, and to help bring the poem to life, he’s enlisted the help of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic Orchestra to provide the soundtrack. Poets Raymond Antrobus and Theresa Lola will be battling it out in a 6 Music Fight Club ahead of their appearance at Manchester Literature Festival.
Also, Antony Szmierek will be stopping by to talk about the poets that have inspired him, as well as sharing some VERY exciting news with Craig.
