Beethoven from the Leonkoro Quartet
Tom Borrow plays Janacek's haunting Piano Sonata 'From the Street' and the Leonkoro Quartet plays the first of Beethoven's Rasumovsky Quartets.
Tom Borrow plays Janacek's Sonata 1.x.1905 'From the street', and the Leonkoro Quartet plays the first of Beethoven's Rasumovsky Quartets.
Written to commemorate the date on which a Moravian carpenter, FrantiΕ‘ek PavlΓk, was bayoneted to death by the forces of the ruling Austrians for supporting the foundation of a Czech-speaking university, Janacek's deeply moving sonata is a work with an intriguing history: he threw part of it into the river Vltava but fortunately a secret copy had been made.
