The world’s most decorated female gymnast returns to reclaim her crown. American Simone Biles withdrew from the Games three years ago, citing a debilitating spatial awareness condition known as β€˜the twisties’. She has since recovered and made a spectacular return to the international stage at last year’s World Championships, collecting four golds.

Team GB’s Joe Clarke is best remembered for his gold in Rio eight years ago, and he returns in the men’s kayak as the reigning world champion. The Stoke City fan has a point to prove after missing out on selection for the Tokyo Games, and he is likely to face stiff competition from Czech paddler Jiri Prskavec.

Elsewhere, the tennis reaches the quarter-final stage on the famous clay courts of Roland Garros, and there are plenty of famous names in action.
