The art of songwriting and 21st Century Folk

Mark celebrates folk songwriters, to coincide with Radio 2's 21st Century Folk.

The best folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond.

This week, Mark and guests explore the art of folk songwriting. This coincides with Radio 2's 21st Century Folk, in which five people have songs written about their lives.

21st Century Folk 2024 focuses on people with lives connected to the sea. Their tales have been turned into songs by Lady Nade with Boo Hewerdine, Cara Dillon with Sam Lakeman, Kris Drever, Martyn Joseph, and Fisherman’s Friends with Seth Lakeman. Find the full stories by searching for "folk" on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sounds.

Cara, Sam, Nade and Boo join Mark to talk about 21st Century Folk and their own favourite songwriters, including: Bob Dylan, Joan Armatrading, RΓoghnach Connolly and Nancy Kerr.
