Jeff Goldblum’s Power Of Jazz - Episode 4
In this final episode, Jeff Goldblum considers the power of Jazz to communicate and say something about ourselves and our world
In this fourth and final episode, Jeff Goldblum looks at the influence of jazz on the wider world: how it created the perfect atmosphere for iconic films and adverts, how it helped define the emerging ‘cool’ culture in the 1940s and inspired the Beat Poet generation with its freedom of expression. We hear the powerful history of Jazz as protest music, starting with Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit in the 1930’s, how it became the soundtrack to the American Civil Rights movement and the modern protest music it influences today. Contemporary jazz musicians Shabaka Hutchings, Yazz Ahmed and Roxy Coss share how their own music and those of others continues to speak to the wider world, on contemporary issues including feminism and racism. Including contributions and insights from Dr Tammy Kernodle and broadcasters Tina Edwards and Kevin LeGendre.
