Sir Ray Davies is interviewed by ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ radio presenters about his career as one of our greatest ever songwriters and performers - from early hits with The Kinks in the 1960s onwards.

As we celebrate his 80th birthday, Sir Ray Davies is interviewed, on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio, by Janice Long, Jools Holland, Matt Everitt, Mark Goodier, Tom Robinson and the late Steve Wright about his prolific career as one of our greatest ever songwriters and performers. Starting with his teenage years, we look at the formation of The Kinks, from their first gig in Oxford and early chart success in the 1960s onwards.

Ray also talks about writing, recording and releasing early hits like All Day and All of the Night in the space of hours, his concept of the Village Green Preservation Society, which he calls the first indie record, being banned in America, constant tension with his brother Dave, how Waterloo Sunset was nearly set in Liverpool, his role in the film Absolute Beginners, his β€œRosebud” moment in his musical tribute to the eternal stars of show business - Celluloid Heroes - and how he loved to break the rules.
