Exeter 22
While Caroline learns about a rare collection of pressed seaweed, the teams look for their own specimens to sell at auction alongside experts Ben Cooper and Kate Bliss.
On the Devon coast, presenter Caroline Hawley is collecting seaweed as she remembers a bygone pastime. She learns that Victorian women were discouraged from studying botany, so they gathered seaweed specimens to take home, press and dry. A few of these amateur naturalists even discovered new species, which were named after them.
Over in Exeter, two teams dash around a huge indoor antiques fair in the company of their experts, Kate Bliss and Ben Cooper. For the reds, it’s mother and daughter Karen and Katrina. Mum Karen is a marathon runner – can her team keep up with her? On the blue team, it’s mum and son duo Ann and Paul. Paul’s aim is to 'haggle, haggle, haggle'.
Country music fan Katrina spots a banjo, but the price isn’t music to her ears. Meanwhile, Kate’s keen eye spies some colourful china from Japan and a lustre plate with a ship on the front, which stays well and truly docked!
