With royal VIPs in the studio audience, the cast are on their best behaviour.

There was a royal presence in the audience for this recording. Queen Elizabeth [later The Queen Mother] Princess Elizabeth [Queen Elizabeth II] and The Duke of Edinburgh were all there. It was Princess Elizabeth’s first public appearance since the birth of Prince Charles the previous November.

Much-Binding-in-the-Marsh ran from 1944 to 1954 on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio, apart from 1950/51 when it aired on Radio Luxembourg. Written by two of its stars, Richard Murdoch and Kenneth Horne, the show initially reflected life in a fictitious RAF station during the last months of WW2 and then the decade beyond, when the site became a country club, and eventually a periodical called β€˜The Bind’.
