Buckle up as Anita Rani and Matt Baker are on a road trip along the Hardknott and Wrynose Passes in the heart of the Lake District.
Buckle up as Anita Rani and Matt Baker are on a road trip along the Hardknott and Wrynose Passes in the heart of the Lake District. Despite their notorious reputation as some of the most challenging roads the countryside has to offer, with steep gradients, tight turns, not to mention wandering livestock and the ever-changing weather, thousands still enjoy driving them every year.
After experiencing driving some of the road together, Anita meets up with local residents to get some much-needed advice on how best to tackle these winding passes and hear some of the vehicle mishaps that have happened over the years. This road allows access to stunning countryside features, including England’s deepest lake, Wastwater, where Anita joins a local group of wild swimmers.
Matt meets a local farmer to hear how livestock is managed along the roads, before heading up the fells to check on the flock. We also meet a fell runner who uses the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike, as her daily practice route, and see how a steam railway along the valley offers an alternative to navigating the wild passes. Over in the Cotswolds, Adam is busy on the farm looking after spring arrivals with lambing, kidding and calving all underway.
