Sarah Vaughan at 100: Alice Russell
In the third of a series of tributes celebrating the centenary of 'Sassy' Sarah Vaughan Alice Russell performs an exclusive new track plus The Mystery of Man at Maida Vale.
To mark what would have been the 100th birthday of singer Sarah Vaughan, this month Jamie is celebrating the legacy of one of jazz’s most influential singers. He’ll be playing a selection of tracks, both classics and deeper cuts, from her enormous catalogue, and inviting some leading contemporary artists to record special covers of songs made famous by Vaughan.
In the last of three special programmes, UK vocalist Alice Russell joins Jamie. She talks about her forthcoming new album I Am and plays a live version of never heard before track from the record. Alice also gets into the inspiration she finds in Sarah Vaughan's music and covers a lesser known track of hers, The Mystery of Man, at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Maida Vale studios.
