Johnnie pays tribute to the wonderful Steve Harley, who died last week, with an archive interview first aired in 2020.
As well as being one of the most notable artists of the decade, Steve also has a long history with Radio 2's Sounds of the 70s show, having been its presenter before Johnnie took over in 2009!
At the start of the 70's, Steve Harley was a journalist by day. As a budding musician and songwriter in London, he formed Cockney Rebel and eventually signed to EMI in 1972, releasing their debut album just a year later. By 1974, they were on their way to two top 10 singles, before the huge success of 'Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) followed in 1975.
