Episode 5
Martin and Phil enjoy a stunning drive to Trondheim, Norway’s capital of cool, where they experience the heat of a Michelin-starred kitchen, before letting off steam at a death metal gig.
Martin and Phil drive through the epic scenery of one of the world’s most famous roads and explore modern Norwegian culture in Trondheim, Norway’s capital of cool.
The duo make their way along the Atlantic Ocean Road and across Storseisundet Bridge, famously seen in James Bond film No Time to Die. Their reward is a sojourn in a beautiful floating sauna in Molde, where they realise Norway’s sauna culture is less to do with a warm sit down and more about the cold plunge that comes at the end of it.
Trondheim sees Phil in his element as him and Martin visit Credo, the Michelin-star restaurant with the first Michelin sustainability award ever given. Chef patron is Heidi Bjerkan, former private chef to the Norwegian royal family and the first female chef in Norway to gain a Michelin star. They get stuck in as they help to prepare meatball soup for the family meal for the restaurant team, before getting to sample some of the traditional ingredients Heidi is reimagining for her clientele.
Martin and Phil then head to Svartlamon, once Trondheim’s squat settlement but now a buzzing eco-district. They are there to see local death metal band Hypermass, who are playing a sold-out gig. After being put through some death growl practice, the boys are invited to join in onstage, where they see a very different side to the usually reserved Norwegians.
