Episode 3

Martin and Phil are back in Bergen for a crash course in offshore oil rig safety training, before travelling to Voss to try out some smoked sheep’s head.

Actor Martin Compston and his pal Phil MacHugh are back in Bergen to experience the industry that made Norway its billions: oil and gas. They pull on their safety suits to undertake the offshore emergency training that keeps the workers safe out at sea. It’s a shock to the system when Phil is set adrift and plunged into cold water with only Martin on hand to save the day. Next, they learn to breathe underwater in a rolling helicopter drill, before learning the importance of teamwork as they work together to put out a powerful fire.

With their time in the south west over, Martin and Phil drive northwards towards Voss, where they have their eye on an unusual spot of lunch. Smalahovetunet Farm has been in Voss since the 18th century and is now the only remaining supplier of that infamous Norwegian delicacy: smoked sheep’s head.

Bellies less than full, and feeling a little squeamish, it’s time to get back on the road. The boys get their first glimpse of Norway’s epic fjord landscape with a final stop at Stegastein, overlooking Aurlandsfjord.
