The film was based on HernΓ‘ndez’s 2012 autobiography, β€œReaching for the Stars: The Inspiring Story of a Migrant Farmworker Turned Astronaut.”

In the 90s, he developed the first full-field digital mammography imaging system, which aids the early detection of breast cancer.

In 2001, HernΓ‘ndez joined the Johnson Space Centre in Houston. After three years and being turned down eleven times for astronaut training by NASA, HernΓ‘ndez was selected in May 2004. Five years later, he went on his first space mission.
