Episode 2 of 5

The seven remaining young cooks must feed the volunteer staff at the London Community Kitchen and dish up a delicious brunch to impress judges Poppy O'Toole and Big Has.

It’s week two of the competition, and there’s no let up as the seven remaining young cooks face two more tough missions set by judges Poppy O'Toole and Big Has. Only those who stay on track will stand a chance of coming out on top. With only six spots left, one cook’s journey will end this week, as the search for 2024’s Young MasterChef Champion continues.

It's an inspiring start as the super seven land in Harrow at the London Community Kitchen, which last year alone dished up enough meals to feed over half a million people from the local area who struggle to put food on the table. Today, it’s the volunteers who can enjoy a meal, as the rookie cooks get split into teams to prepare a three-course lunch for some of the London Community Kitchen team. Word of warning: this kitchen only uses surplus ingredients that would otherwise be fodder for the landfill. So the contestants must raid today’s delivery truck and get creative for their top-tier menu. Guidance is on tap from food waste ‘disruptor’ Martyn Odell (aka TikTok sensation @Lagomchef) who will be on their case if they don’t make the best of what’s on offer. Will the rookies deliver a feast to remember, or one the diners would sooner forget?

Next, it’s brunch-time back at the Young MasterChef kitchen, where Poppy and Big Has are hankering for a tasty mid-morning treat. After watching a masterclass from the Potato Queen herself - dishing up some hash browns and poached eggs - it’s down to the cooks to show what they are made of and serve their perfect brunch. They can go sweet or savoury - but it must have an egg element, be packed with flavour and be food worth getting up for!

After the judging, it’s the end of the road for one cook, but for those who make it through, their dream of becoming Young MasterChef Champion 2024 is still on the cards. With more twists and turns ahead, however, it’s anyone’s game.
