The Big Mortgage Squeeze

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s cost of living correspondent Colletta Smith meets the homeowners feeling the squeeze as they come off cheaper fixed-rate mortgages and adjust to much higher bills.

Millions of Britons are now facing hefty rises in their mortgage payments, on top of a cost of living crisis. The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s cost of living correspondent Colletta Smith meets the homeowners feeling the squeeze as they come off cheaper fixed-rate mortgages and adjust to much higher bills.

She also discovers that rate rises are helping to push up the cost of renting, as some landlords sell up and others pass on increased mortgage costs to their tenants. The Bank of England kept interest rates on hold in September, but the effects of 14 consecutive rate rises before that are just kicking in - and some of us are feeling the pain more than others.
