Revolt
Tom Bateman continues his series about the French and British mandates in the Middle East in the 1930s, and how they still reverberate today.
A century since the British and French Mandates in the Middle East formally began, Tom Bateman draws on his years as a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Correspondent based in Jerusalem to examine this critical period in the region’s history. In this second episode Tom looks at the 1930s, when immigration and a nationalist uprising put extraordinary pressure on British rule in Palestine. He reveals how, from institutions and movements of people to ideas and lines on maps, the decisions taken by Britain then still affect the region today, yet remain little understood in Britain.
