Adam Walton dispels the many misconceptions surrounding neurodiversity...

Neurodiversity is the umbrella term used to explain the unique ways in which people's brains work. It’s a term often used in the context of a range of disabilities such as ADHD, Tourette’s and autism spectrum disorder to name a few. People with these types of conditions are described as being neurodivergent.

Neurodiverse conditions are often misunderstood and due to this, neurodivergent people can face unfair treatment or stigma in society due to the challenges associated with their disabilities.

To find out how we can better understand neurodiversity and conditions like autism spectrum disorder, Adam is joined by Pete Wharmby, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 34. Pete discusses his book, 'Un-typical', which describes how the modern world is not built with autistic people in mind.

We also hear from Dr Anneka Tomlinson from the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University, who focuses on targeted individualised treatments for adults with ADHD.

Director of the Wales Autism Research Centre at Cardiff University, Dr Catherine Jones, joins Adam for a chat.

Plus we hear from Journalism Student, Sarah Jayne Smith, and Broadcast Scheduler, Luke Davies, who each discuss growing up neurodivergent.

Produced by Stuart Russell.
