Episode 15
The keepers have to say goodbye to a tiger, and the parrots have a dance-off
In the season finale, one of the most monumental stories unfolds with Rusty the Amur tiger. He and his sister Yuki thrilled the keepers when they were born in 2019. They were the first tigers to be born at the park for years, and we have followed their every step, from feeding from their mum to their first time exploring their enclosure. These tigers are the largest of the species and are part of a vital international breeding programme. It’s for this reason that Rusty must leave the park today. He has been selected to move to Blackpool Zoo, where he will hopefully become father to cubs of his own. The move is of vital importance to his species, but that doesn’t make it any easier for his keepers when it’s time to say goodbye.
The parrots have had a bit of a boring time, as a recent outbreak of avian flu has meant they must be restricted to their enclosure - but how on earth can the keepers keep them entertained? A dance-off of course! Two keepers fire up the sound system and use every trick in the book to get the parrots bopping, but will it be Gemma’s Boyzone track or Ella’s Scouting for Girls number that gets them moving the most?
Megan McCubbin is assisting the keepers as they care for their animals, and what better task to perform as the summer comes to an end than a full-body check for ticks on the tapirs?
