National Theatre of Scotland's Kidnapped plus a new Gaelic Western, "Stornoway, Quebec"
Film academic David Archibald on his book 'Tracking Loach', which he wrote after getting access to observe Ken Loach on set while filming the Glasgow set comedy, The Angels' Share
Kidnapped, the new production from the National Theatre of Scotland, is a riotous re-telling of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novella. Janice speaks to the show’s co-writer and director Isobel McArthur and actor Kim Ismay – who plays Frances, Robert Louis Stevenson’s real wife.
'Stornoway, Quebec' is a new play inspired by tales of the real life Canadian outlaw, Donald Morrison and it will open with an historic premiere in Stornoway, the place from which Morrison's family emigrated to Canada. Janice is joined by director Muireann Kelly and writer Calum L. MacLeΓ²id.
Film academic David Archibald is author of a new book, Tracking Loach. It was written after Archibald was granted unprecedented access to observe director Ken Loach while he was making the 2012 Glasgow-set comedy drama The Angels' Share, which went on to receive The Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. David talks to Janice about his book ahead of an event with Ken Loach.
Janice meets the artist behind our Single of the Week, Ain’t All Roses, August Saint-Giles from The Black Denims.
And in Tuesday Review, novelist Catherine Simpson and writer and critic Neil Cooper give their take on three new tv programmes: a new adaptation of Dickens’ Great Expectations; Blue Lights, a police drama set in Belfast; And Six Four, a new Glasgow-set crime drama inspired by a best-selling Japanese novel, starring Kevin McKidd and James Cosmo.
