Sound mapping, yellow wellies, and an Ecology Centre in Fife

Mark Stephen and Rachel Stewart with stories from the great outdoors.

Mark catches up with Estate Manager Angus McNichol, at the Invercauld Estate near Glenshee, to find out what his priorities are in the management of the land.

Rachel meets the man in the yellow wellies, Simon Blackett, who gets her up to date on all the Royal goings-on in the Marr area.

Mark goes out on a ten metre long Humber Rib with skipper Rab Deas. They have every intention of reaching the Isle of May, but instead skirt the coast, in avoidance of the bad weather.

Collating the sounds of the National Parks, Pete Stollerly is a sound artist and composer. We chat with him about why active listening is so important, and hear some of the sounds that have been collected from the Cairngorms so far.

Estelle Slegers Helsen has been researching the life and works of Scottish photographer WS Thompson. Maud Start meets Estelle to find out how she has been retaking the same photographs he snapped seventy years ago as part of her Travel in Time series.

An extract from our midweek podcast see’s Rachel out on her bike in Glasgow, with the ladies from the Women on Wheels initiative, to find out what they’re doing to encourage more women to take up cycling.

Mark heads out to the Ecology Centre in Fife, to learn more about how the pond there is managed, with volunteer Paul Harley, and operations manager Lee Brown.
