David Harewood - actor, director, author and activist - chooses his Tracks of My Years all this week.

One of the most acclaimed and in-demand actors this country has produced, David's starred in work as diverse as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔland, The Vice and Supergirl on the small screen, while in theatre he’s portrayed Martin Luther King, Othello and the roman general Marc Anthony.

His best-known roles are probably that of CIA counterterrorism director David Estes in Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔland and J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter and Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Superman in Supergirl, the show where he made his directorial debut in 2021.

As a mental health ambassador, David has highlighted his own battle with mental health in work such as the Bafta-nominated documentary David Harewood: Psychosis and Me. Having published his first book in 2021 called Maybe I Don’t Belong Here: A Memoir of Race, David's also continued to explore issues around race in documentaries such as Black is the New Black, Will Britain Ever Have a Black Prime Minister? and Why Is Covid Killing People of Colour?

In his latest two-part documentary, Get On Up: The Triumph of Black America, David journeys across the US to meet his heroes and discover some of the true stories behind the incredible artists who shaped his life and changed the world. Smokey Robinson, Bond girl Gloria Hendry and disco pioneer Nile Rogers are just some of the names to feature.

His first choices are from The Temptations and The Supremes.

Plus, Gary's got another edition of Radio 2’s new mid-morning music quiz Ten to the Top, as well as The Love Song messages and the Record and Album of the Week.
