2. Fresh Caught Haddock

Episode 2 of 6

This instalment from the Sedaris files includes β€œFresh Caught Haddock” read to a packed house at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill, London.

β€œWhen George Floyd was killed and seemingly overnight all of New York came to smell like fresh plywood, I thought of Schenectady…”

β€œFresh Caught Haddock” is David’s response to the BLM marches which took place in New York City, during the Covid pandemic and following the death of George Floyd. It was a period of tremendous social upheaval across the United States but not without humour, and in this story, David reflects characteristically on his experiences as a wry observer on the foibles of human behaviour.

The programme wraps up with a brief question and answer session with the studio audience, where we learn what David thinks about learning foreign languages.
