Sheepdog Training, Riversdale Road and the Eilean Munde burial island

Mark Stephen and Rachel Stewart with stories from the great outdoors.

Mark has been clearing gorse on the Kincorth Hill Nature Reserve, with the Aberdeen City Council Ranger Service and a group of hardworking volunteers.

Rachel visits the Narrowboat Farm near to Linlithgow, to chat with community resident Ian Withers about how this canal-side, small-scale farm operates.

90-year-old Stewart Grant has built himself a beautiful off-grid hobbit house in the Highlands. Andrew Thomson goes along for a tour and a chat with the man behind the build.

Eilean Munde is a small burial island positioned on the waters of Loch Leven. Mark hears from Rosalin MacDonald, of the Glencoe Heritage Trust, about how she is connected with the island and its incredible history.

As hundreds of dead puffins wash up on the shores of Spain, of which many were ringed in Scotland, we chat with Isle of May Field Manager Mark Newell, about this unfortunate influx.

Mark chats with Yvonne McLeod, from Paths For All, about a fund that has been rolled out in the hopes to improve the connecting path networks in local communities.

Rachel gets her paws into the training of a sheepdog, as funding is made available to encourage women to join the livestock handling industry. She meets Michelle Bruce, who runs a training business with her husband on a farm in Aberdeenshire.

An extract from this week’s midweek podcast sees Artist Neil Stewart chatting to Mark about his Wildwood cycling adventure from the Borders to the Cairngorms.

Rachel enjoys the Spectra Festival in Aberdeen, treating her senses to Scotland’s own festival of light.

Mark takes a walk down Riversdale Road, with Andy Arthur of the Threadinburgh Twitter account. They look beyond the ordinary exteriors, to find out the streets remarkable experimental architecture.
