Jazz sensation Lady Blackbird performs live alongside the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra for Radio 2 Piano Room Month 2023, with her three-song set including a Nina Simone cover.

It's been less than three years since Lady Blackbird released her debut single Blackbird - a cover of Nina Simone's civil rights anthem - but already she's been nicknamed the Grace Jones of jazz and causing a stir wherever she goes - including a recent TV appearance with Graham Norton.

Based in LA, Lady Blackbird had tried to be an alt-rock and R&B singer before her big breakthrough, but with the release of her debut album Black Acid Soul in late 2021, it seems the jazz community have found a new heroine.

Radio 2 Piano Room Month sees an abundance of world famous award-winning artists gather to perform exclusively with the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra, and each artist will be performing three tracks - a new song, one of their well-known tracks, and a classic cover version from another artist - with members of the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra accompanying.

Plus, naturalist and broadcaster Chris Packham chooses his Tracks of My Years with Ken all this week. Chris began presenting the award winning Really Wild Show in 1986, and he's now the host of the Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch series for the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ. Chris also presents notable natural history series such as Nature’s Weirdest Events and Secrets of our Living Planet.

In 2017 Chris first shared his autistic diagnosis on TV, and his new two-part documentary, Inside Our Autistic Minds, sees Chris working with four autistic people and taking a deep dive into their minds, immersing himself in their everyday experiences, observing and learning about the ways they sense and interact with the world.

Chris's final two choices are from Lightening Seeds and Keane, and Ken's also got another round of PopMaster at 10:30.
